New Zealand Radiata Pine

New Zealand Radiata Pine’s botanical name is Pinus Radiata, which is a versatile, fast-growing, medium-density softwood, suitable for a wide range of uses, from construction to furniture.  The majority of plantation forests are Forest Stewardship Council certified.

Radiata pine was introduced into New Zealand in the 19th century. Although native to California, USA, it actually grows faster in New Zealand than in its original home. It can reach maturity in around 28 years. New Zealand tends to manage its plantation trees more intensively, pruning trees to produce a high proportion of higher value clear wood timber.

Chile Radiata Pine

Chile Radiata pine is the same species as New Zealand Radiata pine, was introduced into Chile from California USA in 19th century。Currently, over 90% of Chilean plantations are of radiata pine. Compared to New Zealand pine, Chile pine log are smaller and shorter, which bring a good result of lumber having smaller knots, ideal for indoor furniture manufacture.

Brazil Taeda pine

In 1948, some “yellow” pine was brought into Brazil from USA, rapid growing species like Taeda pine and Elliot pine stand out, and widely planted in South and South east of Brazil.

Between Taeda pine and Elliot pine, Taeda pine has less resin, so it is more suitable for furniture manufacture. Taeda pine has better density and strength than Radiata pine, it is suitable for indoor furniture, sofa framing and construction manufacture.

Spainese Raidata Pine

Radiata pine is also grown in Spain, it has adapted very well to the soils and climatic conditions of the north of Spain, tall clear trunks produce timber suitable for furniture and other wood applications.

It is very similar to the Radiata pine from New Zealand and Australia, Even though Radiata pine is considered a fast-growing tree, radiate pine from Spain grows slower than the radiata pine from rest of the world.
